Our
Goal
Our goal for "Just
For Kids" is
to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and for the
Christian boys and girls to hide God's Word in their heart so that
they might not sin against God and to train them to serve Him.
Our
Clubs
Colts
This is a pre-school program
designed for three, four and five year olds. A child must be
three before June 1st of the club year and should not be in
Kindergarten. In this program, the children have memorization
with activities that alternate to keep the children encouraged as
they learn. It is also geared to encourage parental
support. Each section must be signed by the parent when they
have worked with the child and he/she is ready to pass the section to
the leader.
Ponies
This program is designed for
Kindergarten, first and second graders. The handbooks provide
Bible memorization and other activities.
Mustangs
This program is designed for
third and fourth graders. The handbooks provide Bible
memorization and other activities.
Stallions
This program is designed for
fifth and sixth graders. The handbooks provide Bible
memorization and other activities.
Thoroughbreds
This program is designed for
seventh and eighth graders. Each lesson is to teach the student
how to study the Word of God and then apply the truths to their own lives.
Our
Schedule
Each club meeting is a one and a
half hour program which meets on Wednesdays. Beginning at 6:00
p.m. all clubs meet together for a ten minute opening. Then
within each club there is a twenty minute handbook time, a twenty
minute game time, a ten minute refreshment time and a thirty minute
Bible time. Each club may observe these segments in different
orders depending on how it has been set up.
Opening
This segment of the club creates
an attitude of cooperation and unity within the club. This is
the time also for any announcements that may need to be made.
This segment is then dismissed in prayer.
Game Time
This segment of the club is
important because it attracts boys and girls to "J.F.K."
where they can hear the Gospel and learn the Word of God for
Christian living. It also provides a fun time for the child,
develops good sportsmanship and offers physical exercise.
Handbook
Time
This segment of the club is when
the child recites to his/her leader what he/she has memorized from
their stable test or handbook. Every child that comes to club
prepared to pass sections should be given the opportunity to do
so. Within each group the children are broken down into small
groups with one leader per group. This time also provides
opportunity to challenge the child to accept Christ as their Savior
and grow in His Word. Also for leaders to build strong
relationships with the child and to serve as godly role models.
Bible Time
Bible time is important because
it focuses on the Bible Message. The Bible Message encourages
unsaved children to accept Christ as Savior, and saved children to
grow in their relationship with Christ. This time also unifies
your group providing opportunities for singing, promotion of events
and testimonies. Make sure all children are present for this
time. No sections should be passed during Bible Time.
Stable
Test
Each child receives a Stable
Test when they
attend "J.F.K." for the first time. Each club
has it's own test booklet. The test must be done in order. The
Thoroughbreds are excluded from the Stable Test.
The
Handbook
After completing their Stable
Test each child
is given a handbook that corresponds to their grade level. Each
book starts with a Walk
Test. Each
child must complete the entire Walk
Test before going
on in their book. Once they have finished the Walk
Test, they then
may go to the Trot Test
and Gallop Test
simultaneously, but they must pass the sections in each test in
order. For example, a child may not begin Trot
Test #2 until
he/she has first completed Trot
Test #1.
This is the same for Gallop
Test. The
Thoroughbreds are excluded.
Guidelines
1.
A child must pass an entire section during one session. A
session in an uninterrupted period in which a child is reciting to
the leader. During this time, a child does not refer to his/her
handbook. In a section where a child must memorize several
verses, they may not recite one verse, study awhile, then recite
other verses. They must recite all verses and references within
a section during one session.
2.
A child must pass a section with no more than two helps. A
help is whatever aid a worker chooses to assist a child in the
completion of a section. One help should equal no more than
three or four words. Those with learning disabilities may be
allowed more than two helps, at the discretion of the leader.
Challenge aggressive learners to recite material word perfect.
3.
A child must pass sections in order. For example, they may not
pass section seven and then later go back and complete section
three. Sections are often topical and build upon Scriptural
truths taught in previous sections.
4.
A child must pass the four Trot
Test and the
three Gallop Test
in order. They may complete them simultaneously, but each test
and section must be passed in order. For example, a child may
not pass any sections within Trot
Test #3 until
he/she has first completed Trot
Test #1 and #2.
This is the same with Gallop
Tests.
5.
Each child in the Colts
may not pass more than four sections a night. Each child in the Ponies,
Mustangs
and Stallions
may not pass more than six sections a night. If a child started "J.F.K."
in the second half of the year he/she may pass extra sections in
order in order to be able to finish their book. This should be
done only if there is enough time in the handbook time or after "J.F.K."
is finished for the night and at the leaders discretion.
6.
Thoroughbreds will have unit studies. Within each unit are
lessons for them to study. One lesson is given to them at a
time. When they have completed a lesson, then they will be
given another lesson until the unit is completed.
7. When
a child finishes his/her book for the year, they should go back and
finish any previous year books in their club. Once all books in
their club are finished, then they can work in books of earlier
clubs, with the exception of the Colts
and Ponies
Book. If there is still time remaining in the club year and all
books are completed, the teacher is to give that child paragraphs of
Scripture to memorize. These are to be chosen by the teacher.
TEACHERS
AND LEADERS
A "J.F.K."
teacher/leader is a committed believer who ministers in the local
church. They should be faithfully attending Sunday Morning,
Sunday Evening, and Mid-Week Services. Whenever possible, they
should place themselves under the teaching of the Word of God.
Remember, "J.F.K."
is an integral part of the total ministry of our church, not a
separate organization within the church. Through your personal
example, you should set a high standard of church involvement for
your children in your group. Your role is to reach and train
children for Christ. In addition, you should believe the Lord
has called you to serve Him in "J.F.K."
You should also love working with children.
TWO
TYPES OF TEACHERS AND LEADERS
The
Mechanical Type
These are teachers/leaders who go
to club in body, but not in spirit. In other words they meet
their obligations by going to club, but their heart isn't in their
work. Serving in "J.F.K."
is a bothersome duty, and ordeal to be endured. They
mechanically go through the motions of a typical night, never going
out of their way to do better then they did the week before.
Children's needs don't concern them. Often, they watch the
clock, counting off the minutes until they can go home. They
are usually characterized by arriving late to club, not attending
teachers/leaders meetings, displaying bad attitudes at club, and
making excuses for missing "J.F.K."
The
Spiritual Type
On the other hand, the Spiritual
teacher/leader looks forward to each club meeting and are excited
about working with the children. They are concerned about their
lives and go out of their way to help them grow spiritually. To
them, serving is a privilege, not a duty. During each club
meeting, they seek to minister to their children more effectively and
improve their teaching skills. They are often so involved in
their work that they lose track of time and are surprised when it's
time to go home. Usually they are characterized by arriving on
time (or early) for club nights, faithfully attending
teachers/leaders meetings, and displaying cheerful attitudes at class night.
Which are you?
Whether you're just beginning
your "J.K.F."
ministry or you've been serving for several years, evaluate yourself
now. Are you a mechanical or spiritual teacher/leader?
Ask God to mold you into that person that would serve Him faithfully
and enthusiastically in "Just
For Kids".
